Tips & Tricks to get the most out of your candle.
Trim your wick!
When you are ready to light your amazing candle be sure to trim the wick to between 1/8 and 1/4 inches long and be sure to trim the wick each time you light your candle every time, all the time. Properly trimmed wicks will give you a cleaner & brighter burn & keeps the flame in control.
Create a ‘wax memory’ for an even burn.
Once you light your candle let it burn until the top layer of wax has melted all the way across. This might take several hours so make sure you have the time to burn, so to speak. If you are not achieving a full melt on your burns you will be programing the wax to create a 'tunneling effect. If the wax is not allowed to melt from edge to edge of the vessel, it will create a “tunnel” a wax wall around the wick eventually become impossible to light. Once a candle has tunneled, it will continue to burn that way for the life of the candle, eliminating the full burn time of your candle.
4 Hour Burn times are optimal
It is recommended that after burning for 4 hours, candles be extinguished, cooled for at least for two hours, and trimmed before relighting.
Extinguish your flame, Don’t Blow It!
The way you put out your candle is just as important as how you light it. A candle smoking after being blown out is totally normal. The core of the wick continues to burn for a short time and the inside of the wick can turn to carbon (ash), making it brittle and the candle difficult to light the next time. The smell of smoke has now replaced the beautiful fragrance your candle was casting.
So how do you preserve that lovely fragrance and your wick? Simple, dip it, dip it good. While your flame is still lit, use a poker of sorts (wick dipper or knife, tweezers) and simply flick your wick downwards into your liquid wax and allow the wick to flick back upwards. Your wick will extinguish immediately with little to no smoke and will also coat your wick with a thin layer of wax, making it easier to light your wick the next time.
